Yesterday Detroit unveiled the sixth annual edition of its Detroit Design Festival, that will last for 5 days until September 25. In these days the city will focus on how to exploit design to improve the creative economy and the whole quality of Detroit, addressing local but also international professionals and creatives. The festival will involve many different areas and locations of the city, for a wide series of on-topic events including the first edition of the much awaited Design Summit, that will take place today and tomorrow at the Jam Handy building in Detroit's North End neighborhood.

The summit will kick-off a yearlong planning process to build a common vision for Detroit City of Design. To that end, it will convene leaders from Detroit’s design community, government, community development, and industry, along with international partners, to explore how Detroit can utilize design to build a better city. Detroit was recently named the first and only UNESCO City of Design in the United States, proving how the city puts design in the spotlight more than any other place. Beside design, the festival will focus on the activities that can nourish the future of Detroit, such as education and culture, as well as commerce and entertainment. This capability of looking forward, making design the ultimate key for progress, makes Detroit Design Festival a unique experience that can really make anyone aware of the strategic importance of design and development.
