In Montreal, the French-ish city par excellence, Canadian designer Anne Sophie Goneau, in collaboration with Atelier Moderno, designed an unconventional bakery aimed at breaking with tradition. In fact, Patisserie À La Folie features a unique interior design, minimalistic and modern, consistent with the distinctive quality of its fresh-baked products that get out of the oven every day.

The unique appeal of the Patisserie À La Folie begins with its façade, whose plain monochromatic look wonderfully clashes with the colorful Mont-Royal street on which the store is located, resulting eye-catching by being neutral. Neutral colors continue inside, where grey serves as background for the elaborate unique shapes, textures and shades of the displayed products, in order to make clients focus on the tempting pastries that are baked right in the shop, as the 650 square meter space also includes a laboratory located in the back. This space division has a further effect on the clients who get charmed not just by the look of the products but also by their scent coming out of the lab. The concept of division is also stressed by the wall at the end of the room which half-close the space emphasizing its minimalism.
Overlooked by a wood ceiling, the showcases feature a dramatic illumination that employs LED lights. Custom made and refrigerated, they have thin steel front legs and are linked to the basement where the compressors are hidden in order not to spoil the essential decoration of the store. Light is certainly one of the main focus of the interior design project, as proved by the pendant AIM lamp (by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec) which brings a little character to the cashier counter by breaking the linearity of the rest of the interior.
