Following her previous playful dreamlike creations such as 4² chair and Experimental Sequence ceramic pitchers, Elena Salmistraro keeps on surprising with another project inspired to a crucial topic for the human being: migration. This is the core subject of Motus_instabilità migrante (migrant instability) , designed for PadiglioneItalia, which challenged designers with the theme "Disfunzione Mediterranea" (Mediterranean Dysfunction).
Motus: migration table
The latest project by Elena Salmistraro
Elena Salmistraro accepted this challenge by creating Motus, which is not only the symbol of Mediterranean communities migration but also represents their own roots, caught between tradition and the need to keep on migrating to escape uncertainty. To depict this dichotomy, the designer opted for two rear legs and a bolster to represent tradition and solidity, as well as a front wheel to symbolize the everchanging life.
A design object serving as a table and looking like a hand-cart, a hybrid made out of lacquered tuliper solid wood holding the essence of human motion.
