April is undoubtedly the month for Italian design and art: Milan was livened up by the annual design week on the occasion of the Salone del Mobile fair, but even overseas the Italian quality proved to be eye-catching. On April 23rd, in the vibrant Chelsea district in NYC, the exhibition of Daniele Basso opened its doors at the resourceful Ca’ d’Oro Gallery. The event, paired with the sculptures by American Dalya Luttwag, resulted in a unmissable happening, with over 500 participants including famous collectors, celebrities and American politicians, who found themselves enchanted by the artworks of GlocalDesign’s founder, especially “We Have a Dream”, a multiple work consisting of 25 white bronze sections, inspired by the concept of freedom.

The exhibition, dedicated on the occasion of the 40th birthday of the artist and still on until May 24th, represents the major show of Basso, with many fortes such as "Vertical Reflection", a collection of mirrored works in steel, felt and wood dedicated to the everlasting human search for the meaning of life; “Achilli”, representing the intrinsic rapacity of the human being who is able to both glance at things from afar and gert captured by the details “Les Plis De La Vie”, presented in Venice at the 55° Biennale and dedicated to the crisis as a difficult yet stimulating moment; “Web Pop Icon”, an investigation of the double-edged essence of the internet; and finally the mirrored painting “Russian Atmosphere”, presented on the occasion of the 2014 St. Petersburg Design Week, which stands for a metaphor of the loneliness that affects any of us, no matter if we are alone or not.

If you happen to be in New York don’t miss this unique exhibition that is not only the most important overview of Basso’s work but also a deep reflection of the crucial feelings shared by every human being.
