Table, console, matting? A three-faced design

Tradition and modernity flow in Mario D’Aquino's veins. Two opposite pushes that deeply inspire the designer born in Gallipoli, who constantly design and create new retro-like products with a much contemporary appeal. Stuoia is inspired by the fabric that Apulian women used to weave by hand; a design console-table inspired by the past world.

It looks like a tablecloth: the top is smooth, the corners soft, the legs look like fringes that delicately touch the ground. The effect is delicate yet bold, because Stuoia looks like a fluctuating tablecloth, yet it is a console-table made out of aluminum or steel, upholstered in papier-mâché or micro concrete.

«It's been a challenge on the static side», says the designer. «But I managed to fulfill it through a very thin press-formed cnc cut aluminum framework, upholstered in papier-mâché or micro concrete, to give a light elegant effect as well as the best stability».
