This renovation took place in South Yorkshire, near Manchester where a 1700 hayloft formerly employed as a warehouse, was turned into a cutting-edge loft.

The project, by Liverpool-based Snook Architects studio, was aimed at turning the old building into a modern two-storey country house by preserving the most genuine elements of the firmer structure. The lower floor hosts the living area and the guest rooms, whilst the upper mezzanine is all about master bedrooms and bathrooms. Finished in 2012, the project is a great example of combining traditional elements and modern finishings.

At the beginning of the renovation, Cat Hill Barn was in poor conditions, with a collapsing roof and load-bearing walls that needed to be strengthened. The new space maintains some of the original features such as oak truss ceiling, in view bricks and downstairs fireplace. Beside the original feel, the property now also features contemporary elements like concrete flooring (matching the main color, grey, in all its shades), kitchen isle and glass walls overlooking the countryside.

A country house with metropolitan details to merge present and past all together,
