Sunday December 6th was the last day of Miami Design, the event that yearly turns the most popular city of Florida into the platform where to experience any side of the design world scenario. The eleventh edition of Miami Design, twinned with the renowned Art Basel festival, confirmed the ever-growing popularity of the event: many partners participated in the organization of the happening, enriching the unique offer of the forum. Audi, celebrating 10 years at Miami Design, presented Spotlights, a project inspired by the first electric vehicle by the German automaker, designed in collaboration with Swedish studio Humans to create a merge of tech and design solutions. Swarovski asked Mexican studio Fernando Romero to create an installation inspired by the relationship between human being and sun: the result was El Sol, a 1-billion-to-one reproduction of the planet made out of 2880 custom Swarovski crystals. Satellites, one of the unmissable parts of Miami Design, featured many big names: Airbnb set up a space where to stage unpredictable performances by a creative community aimed at exploring the warm informal hospitality that the brand promotes.

The exhibitions of this edition featured the second edition of Curio, a selection of the most unusual design items, fabrics and handmade pieces reinterpreting design milestones: Adam Charlap Hyman and Andre Herrero for instance showcased Cheese, a homage to Giorgio DeLuca’s first Bond Street shop. Like any edition, the programme featured many seminars and initiatives which went beyond Miami’s boundaries, like the online collaboration with Artsy. The bigger news of the 2015 edition was the Market, which enriched the exhibition area with a global tour in the retail world through a selection of limited edition design items. From now on, the Market will serve as a showcase where emerging talents will express their creativity by working on a specific theme: this year the selected designer was Emmett Moore, who found himself dealing with the tropical Miami theme.
