The 2013 FoodMade, one of the events the Iatest design week, has been the stage of Lanzavecchia + Wai. Founded by two designers who describe themselves also as researchers, engineers and craftsmen, this brand mix together Asian culture and western concept.
Wai, born in Singapore, is an industrial designer with a strong passion for combining different forms and materials. Lanzavecchia, from Italy, is fascinated with the relation between objects and human body & soul, especially in terms of future trends. The duo has presented a table called Austerity, whose name refers to the current financial crisis.

Art, architecture and design reflect this crisis by using their means and products to explain what’s going on in this historical moment.
The domestic environment is tightly connected to the era we live in and to our habits. Therefore, during this destitute moment, home furnishing shall no longer be excessive and oppressive, but actually lacking any kind of unnecessary decoration. Lanzavecchia + Wai’s Austerity table presents only four basic elements, symbolizing what human bodies need the most: basic feeding, carbohydrates and sugar in particular, put all over the metal frame work of the table, which turns into the core of the product.
The aim is prompting people to think about the essence of things and real needs. In this way, furniture can be an inspiration to think about life from a different perspective.
