The 2016 edition of DMY Berlin closed its doors on June 5. For as many as 14 years, the festival has been turning the city into the stage for national and international design, as well as innovation. For the first time, the long-standing international DMY-Festival opened up for participants from all design disciplines, challenging everyone with its motto Odyssey 2016. The works on show ranged from product and industrial design, to fashion and graphic design as well as communication and digital creation. The festival featured the presentation sections: Showroom (for established designers and brands), Education (for design and art colleges and universities), LAB (for young talents), New Talent Competition (new talent winners), Berlin Design Expo (for Berlin-based designers) and Design Spots (for decentral design stakeholders). Some 300 designers from 18 countries presented their works at the multifaceted festival and about 10.000 visitors from across the world used the opportunity to explore the inspiring exhibition venue.

A finely matched combination of design parcours and framework programme offered thecvisitors plenty of opportunities to discover new trends – in addition to the multitude of design objects, material studies, close-to-production products and abstract design discourses, an abundance of Performances, Design Talks, Workshops, Lectures, Special Shows as well as berlin-wide design events complemented the festival programme.Besides the works of the established designers, the festival had a special focus on new talent. Within this context, numerous young designers presented their innovative works and projects. The quality of the fresh design was rewarded with the DMY Awards in the categories Exhibitor, New Talent, and Education.Prior to the festival, several design submissions were awarded within the context of the New Talent Competition. Out of some 170 applications, the DMY Jury chose the strongest works. In the end, 25 winners from 12 countries won an exhibition space for free and the visitors of the festival were offered the opportunity to enjoy their charmingly presented design statements. With such a rich programme, DMY Berlin once again proved to be a very productive networking and communication platform as well as an attractive design fair for both exhibitors and visitors.
