The curtains on the fifth much-awaited edition of Beijing Design Week will be closing on October 7th: since 2011, the festival has been turning China’s capital into the world’s design and innovation capital, with a double focus on both national and international production. Over the last years, China’s design industry has been recording a huge increase and massive investments, as proved by the fact that the Chinese design festival is supported by an impressive number of Chinese institutions: Beijing Design Week is in fact organized by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Municipal Government of Beijing along with as many as 32 local organizations.

With commercial sponsors such as Nissan and Air China, there was no doubt that this 2015 15-day-long edition would be a unique, astonishing event. Expectations have been fully fulfilled, thanks to this year’s wide program composed by 7 key sections, including the first edition of the Design Awards, aimed at rewarding the Chinese talents who can best embody the present and future of national design, especially its leading role in the social, cultural and economic development of the country. Among the other initiatives, Design Trade has been strongly in the spotlight, being the actual fair where to witness the worldwide design production and develop new business opportunities; moreover, Smart City, the section dedicated to future urbanization solutions, a crucial topic for a big country like China, where electric motorcycles, for instance, are already in place like nowhere else in the world. With an average of 2000 designers and 5 million visitors, Beijing Design Week has proved once again to be the most captivating design festival of the whole Asia, with a strong international feel enhanced by the “Guest city” initiative, dedicated to Dubai’s emirate.
