It will begin on September 23 to turn the Chinese capital into the core of design and innovation: that is the 2015 edition of Beijing Design Week, the yearly event that brings thousands of national and international designers and visitors to Beijing, also thanks to the early October National Day bank holiday.

The design festival will in fact last until October 7: with an average of 2000 designers and 5 million visitors, the Beijing Design Week represents one of the hottest events of the Far East, perhaps the one with the widest program.

The fifth edition of Beijing’s design festival keeps moving in the very same direction of its 2011 launch, that is bringing more and more design into the social, economic and cultural layout of China. An effort pursued by Chinese authorities too, as they have been attracting to China the foreign design know-how (especially European and Italian) in order to help the creation of a local new industry. On top of that, China is facing the need of finding new sustainable solutions in terms of urbanization, as the growth of its cities keeps on going.

This year’s edition of the BJDW - co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Local Government, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology - will feature seven key sections.

The newest one, Design Service, will serve as the innovation platform where to discover the youngest national start-ups; the inaugural one, Design Night, will be the festival’s very first happening, with stunning installations that will amaze the public. Just like the most renowned global design weeks, the BJDW will also feature, for the first time, the Design Awards, in order to stress the cultural and social value of those working in the field. Business will be another focus thanks to Design Trade, the actual fair where to witness the best international production. The seven sides of BJDW will also include Smart City – dedicated to the crucial subject of urbanization, Design HOP – the lab, exhibit, seminar and installation series scattered all over the city, and finally Guest City – starring Dubai to bring a further international touch to the event.

Sustainability, innovation and cooperation: with such premises the Beijing Design Week is ready to represent the most contemporary and captivating face of China.
