The interior design renovations are often aimed at updating an outdated space by bringing a new look and a modern arrangement. That’s what happened to this 250 square meter penthouse on two levels located in Albert Park, Australia. Built in the Seventies and in need of a complete restyling to become the perfect place for a couple of travelers, this space represented an interesting challenge for Melbourne-based Whiting Architects studio, which designed its renovation by focusing on the needs of the clients: first of all their passion for kyte boarding, played by the couple on the front beach.
The entry of the loft gives a sense of transition, with a internal window that offers a glimpse through e into the main living area. On the right, the utility room and laundry almost seem to disappear thanks to the play of panels on the wall. On the inside, the laundry displays the studio’s attention for the client’s passion, with a stainless structure specifically created to hang wet suits.

A little stairs links the entry to the ground floor where the open space is arranged as a “discovery process” in which the areas of the floor – from the living room to the dining table and the kitchen - unfold behind the visitor’s eyes. Like almost any room of the apartment, the windows overlook the front beach, which is visible even from the landlocked bathrooms by looking through the living area from frames sculpted into the main structure.

The core of the interior design project, whose main colors are black and white, is the box form, as proved by the solid piece in the kitchen, as well as the house storage space, the conceal walls and the actual entry. Thanks to this spatial “boxy” arrangement, especially in the master bedroom on the upper floor, you get the feeling that the apartment could be packed up then slid out to be relocated elsewhere, consistently with the globe-trotter spirit of the owners.
