Where do art and design meet? The answer is: Basel. The Swiss city just hosted one of the hottest festivals of the whole world scenario, Design Miami/Basel, which went on from June 16 until yesterday. The tenth edition of the event confirmed to be again an actual international conversation on design, which each year takes place on both the Atlantic Ocean’s ends: Basel, in June, and Miami, in December. Both the events gather the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. This makes DesignMiami the premier venue for collecting, exhibiting, discussing and creating collectible design, as it is more than a regular fair, being the place where the world’s top galleries present museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first century furniture, lighting and objets d’art.

Each show balances exclusive commercial opportunities with progressive cultural programming, creating exciting collaborations with designers and design institutions, panels and lectures with luminaries from the worlds of design, architecture, art and fashion, and unique commissions from the world’s top emerging and established designers and architects. Hosted at Messe Basel and organized in collaboration with big brands such as Audi, American Express and Swarovski (which is the sole sponsor of the Designer of the Future Award), this year’s DesignMiami/Basel was enriched by new satellite exhibitions. The specialist watch dealer Le Collection’Heure presented exhibitions of the work of Gérald Genta and the history of the Rolex Daytona, as well as pieces with exceptional – and often unusual – provenance from the dealer’s collection; whilst watch specialist Davide Parmegiani displayed an exceptional selection of timepieces telling a story of great watch-making traditions at the Basel fair.
