The well-known 3 R principle – reduce, re-use, recycle – is sometimes an opportunity. Working at the new Gummo location project, an independent agency of Amsterdam, the i29 interior architects totally embraced this motto. They always work in respect of a sustainable and no wasting approach without missing the aesthetic result, anyway. The new offices of 450 sq.m. are located on the first floor of a building where the editorial staff of the daily “The Parool” works. The i29 led by Jaspar Jansen an(1970) and Jeroen Dellensen (1972) maintained the exterior façade while changing the internal spaces.

Second hand furnishings had been chosen to realize a recycled office: pieces of furniture taken from charity markets on Marktpaats.nl portal (the Dutch version of Ebay) and objects left by people at the entrance of the building. The creative mark continued the work of art: each pieces of furniture turned into gray  - in contrast with white walls – using spraying environmental paint. The visual impact is so strong. Gray paint marks cement floors of working areas. The Gummo philosophy was clear: simple, no frills, and with humor. And the objective has been reached.
I29 interior architects decided to recycle old pieces of furniture – selected, gray painted, repaired – almost 4 years later thanks to the launch of the brand As GoodAs New and its relatively website on 2012.
For this special occasion they realized a small pop up shop inside SPRMRKT,  a big fashion store located in Amsterdam. Their space, one colour only, had been furnished as an ancient living room with re-used objects: a lamp, sofas, chairs, a world-map, a hunting trophy, a pair of old boots. Everything is covered by gray paint and giving the space a oneiric and conceptual look. You just have to be aware of the fact that with small gestures you can reach unexpected results. And of great impact, too.
