The Salone del Mobile Fair and its Fuorisalone in Milan are certainly fantastic events that can’t be missed, but they’re not the only ones. September is an exciting month for design lovers, featuring three main events: Macef in Milan, Maison e Objet in Paris and of course the London Design Festival. From 14th to 22nd September London will host many prodigies from all over the world. It will be held at the Victoria and Albert Museum, an exquisite location for this event whose last edition attracted more than 111,000 visitors, a figure expected to be exceeded. The project will involve 250 worldwide exhibitors, 300 events, and guest stars such as Karl Lagerfeld, Tom Dixon and Boffi. On the occasion of the incumbent Festival, many exhibition set-ups and itineraries have been put in place, such as the cork flooring of the museum bridge by FAT Architecture and Amorim, which designed a trompe l’oeil motif that proves the high potential of such a ductile and green material.
Road to London Design Week
The Design Festival will be held in London 14-22 September.
The creation is combined with an exhibition-event inside the museum, “God is in the details”, produced in collaboration with Swarovski. The name of the exhibition refers to architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s famous statement “God is in the details”. Details will be the main focus of the event which will host the world’s most influential designers such as Paul Cocksedge , Tom Dixon , Amanda Levete , Faye Toogood ,
Stephen Webster and Osman Yousefzada, who have chosen a single object of the museum collection to accentuate by using a Swarovski magnifying glass, creating a new personal point of view. In this way, the joint-exhibition will offer an unusual point of view which prefers detail over entirety. A week full of events and young talents’ exhibitions such as Future Map, Endless Stair ambitious installation that features the Tate Modern in the background, or 28,280 by Omer Arbel for Bocci. This huge project consists of a 30-meters-long lamp designed as an homage to Bocci famous 28 lamp: it will welcome each visitor in the entrance of the museum, lighting the foyer up with its colorful light-drops.
Some Italian brands and personalities will join the Festival, such as Alessi, which will offer a visit to the Sackler Centre by displaying its historical handcrafted objects, Claudio Gianfranceshi and his Murano glass creation for Villaverde, and Poltrona Frau with Zaha Hadid and her Array, an auditorium seat presented for the first time during the last Salone del Mobile Fair in Milan.
Countless events that deserve to be discovered by flying to London as soon as possible.
