When it comes to new design products, one of the most enchanting features is certainly innovation, that is the ability of a designer to create objects that goes beyond physics, achieving important results that change the face of design for good. If we look at lightweight construction and strength properties, Ripple 2.0 by Benjamin Hubert Ltd - an evolution of the well known Ripple table - represents a new landmark in the design research.

Ripple 2.0 is the result of a a series of rigorous strength and stability tests undertaken by the studio which resulted in the gentle curve of the table’s surface across its length and width, adding tensile strength to the structure. Moreover, the improved leg design employs a hollow triangular profile that offers increased strength and rigidity in two directions. Just like its predecessor, Ripple 2.0 can be assembled and maneuvered by a single person but can also easily support the equivalent of a person’s weight, further demonstrating the properties of the lightweight construction without compromises in terms of material, as it uses 80% less material than a standard timber table. Entirely made out of sitka spruce, a timber sourced only in Canada, the table is manufactured by Corelam, with which Benjamin Hubert Ltd developed new techniques of wood processing. Designed as part of an internal studio research project into lightweight constructions, Ripple 2.0 is now also available for purchase through Benjamin Hubert Ltd after being launched at Aram Store during London Design Festival last year.
