Looking for an accommodation in Barcelona? Want to turn a tatty place into a 24m² apartment? There’s a solution for that.
Lego Apartment has been projected by Barbara Appolloni, an italian architect who studied at the Ecole d’Architecture de Paris, as well as the "La Villette” and the "La Sapienza" University in Rome. She moved to Barcelona in 2004 to collaborate with the MirallesTagliabue studio in the Santa Caterina market roofing project. Since 2006 she has been dealing with interior design by renovating houses, stores, restaurants as well as creating furniture pieces.
Lego Apartment project combines yacht and Japanese houses space arrangements. The owner of the apartment presents every features of the space in a video, showing how a tiny room has been turned into a proper apartment, including a panoramic terrace overlooking Barcelona.

The use of materials is a crucial element of this project: the main one is Viroc (producing wood and concrete panels), employed on the floor and on one of the two walls. The second wall is covered entirely in wood and partitioned into several modules, like a Rietveld painting. Each module hides inside a different component of the apartment such as the kitchen (including a dishwasher!), the fridge and the closet, depending on what’s needed. It takes only a small push to reveal them. Only the shower and the metal glazed basin are not hidden, however they hide some secrets too: inside the Viroc wall, in fact, there are a mirror and a soap dish.
What about the bed? It is a pull out bench bed. When closed, it also functions as a wooden step to access the terrace, where an outer staircase takes you even upper, to the attic overlooking the city. By reinforcing the steel structure, the owner has been able to create an upper terrace with all the amenities, including a tub to cool in during hot summer days, sipping cerveza.
