When a job like this is assigned to design professionals nothing is impossible, as proved by this interior design project located in Winchester, Hampshire, where AR Design Studio extended and renovated a former tired drab building to create a five-bedroomed house suiting a big family with design-oriented tastes.

The space amazes from the very beginning thanks to a double-height entrance where natural light takes over as the centre of the project, as proved by the wide sliding glazing employed in the living space to create a continuum with the garden. In this way, adults can relax in the living room by keeping an eye on their children playing outside. The main element of the interior is certainly the staircase, located in front of the kitchen to divide the space: made out of steel, it is wrapped in steel wires that also serve as balustrade.
The openness also recurs on the first floor where a bridge flows across the double height entrance space, enhanced by Foscarini’s pendant lamps to give a further sense of suspension. In the rear of the building the extension layout shows, as the two wings of the house intersect with the garden, where a concrete plinth steps right into the grass to stress the continuity between indoor and outdoor, already created by the sliding glass windows.
Thanks to its refined details, Kilham House is the perfect result of a wise mix between modern materials and design items.
