The countdown is finally beginning: just a few hours separate us from the fourth edition of the Saudi Design Week, a fair that brings together the great design masters with emerging talents, giving them a space in which to share their passion and to feel part of a true community.
A rich program of events will be held at the new King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center, the congress center awarded for its architecture and elegance and designed by the famous architect Zaha Hadid.
Designers, this year, will have to respond to the theme "Design in Motion" by presenting their designs and revealing the process behind them, from the initial concept to the final product. A design intended as an essential part of any project that puts in motion elements to blend function and aesthetics.

Among the many projects that will feature this new edition, visitors will be able to explore an art installation inspired by the physical properties of the petroleum, the main source of energy and wealth of the Gulf. Called Black Diamond, the design by BIA Studio will provide a unique sensory experience in which to explore the multiple layers of matter that move beyond the boundaries between reality and imagination.
Shepherd Design Studio will instead present a parametric pavilion in response to Saudi Arabia's local architecture by presenting a series of space configurations that synthesize local colorful frescos, geometric configuration, and space dynamism. The goal is to create a meeting place for visitors in transit and to offer a space that encourages collaboration, hence the title "DESIGNxUS".
Other exhibitors include Lebanese designer Nada Debs, combining minimalist design with influences from the Middle East and Dutch designer Olivier van Herpt, whose works include 3D-printed ceramics.
From 5th to 8th October, the Saudi capital is ready to become a dynamic platform to discuss, judge and admire a good design.
