A design renovation with an artsy touch: in Melbourne's inner west, Australia, BoardGrove Architects studio accomplished its second project in a very original way. The first keyword of this amazing work is certainly “light”, as the studio reconfigured the layout of the dwelling to maximize access of natural light whilst opening up the circulation between spaces to create multiple openings and routes between each compartment.
Footscray apartment: interior design meets art in Melbourne
Light, essential forms and neat lines: that's the project by BoardGrove Architects
The space is surrounded by white and neutral colors, which create a pleasant contrast with the preexisting concrete floor and walls, adding warmth to the space. The kitchen represents one of the focuses of the project: it belongs to a living-dining-cooking open plan, yet it is not just the backdrop of the living space. BoardGrove Studio aimed at creating a more ambiguous cooking area that appeared as a collection of art like objects. Three objects were developed, a solid corian bench, a larger metal arched door, raised off the floor and placed flat against the wall and a complimentary arched reveal. Between these three they hold the sink, oven, cook-top and fridge. The final result is a minimalist, open, bright space whose forms and palette bring to the whole environment an unexpected touch of refinement.
