When it comes to sustainable design the main focus is always the creation of new products that provide an actual energy saving. For the last years, LED light has been the most important way to produce lamps and design items taking down the waste of energy: this light source will be the core of LED – Lighting Experience Design, the 2015 Fuorisalone event that will take place within Milan’s Ventura-Lambrate district. Promoted by Assodel (Italian Association of Electronics Clusters) and LedLab (Solid State Lighting network) in collaboration with TID, the happening will provide an overview of the latest news from the lighting field.

New products are not the only way to help the planet as a big part is also played by the reuse of existing items: to stress the importance of smart recycling, LED – Lighting Experience Design will be hosting Ecolamp, the non-profit Consortium whose work centers round the recovery and disposal of lighting equipment at the end of its useful life. Launched in 2004 as a result of an initiative involving the main national and international businesses in the Italian technical lighting sector, it currently represents the major producer of lighting equipment in Italy, guaranteeing full compliance with the law for its members. The Consortium has developed a logistic system covering the whole of Italy for the complete and widespread management of the stages connected to the collection, transport, recovery and treatment of lighting equipment at the end of its useful life.
In parallel with the pick-up from municipal collection centres, it has set up a series of voluntary services provided free of charge to professionals. In this way, Ecolamp brings used light sources to a new life, teaching the importance of the respect of the environment and giving LED – Lighting Experience Design a further green feel which is crucial not just to the design field but to our everyday life.
