The setting is historical. The interior design is far from modern lofts. This is Domus Civita, located in the Etruscan Bagnoregio (on Viterbo’s hills): a perfect example of combining an ancient ruined place with modernity, to create a pool holiday home framed by a grotto.

The original 1300 framework underwent some renovation works a couple of decades ago, resulting in a multi-divided space. Then, Studio F by Patrizio Fradiani recently renovate the space by choosing to preserve and emphasize the beautiful original parts and their main material: tuff stone. As any quality interior design project, the key of the work was to combine the original framework with modern fixtures and furniture. The beauty of tunnels and grottos was preserved by reclaiming the space to get rid of humidity traces, in order to exploit the particular feel of the property to create a wine cellar, a meditation room, a kitchen connected to a garden, and a pool, in a contemporary reinterpretation of the Etruscan lifestyle.

The kitchen furniture features varnished pieces , a crystal surface table and all-white chairs. A quite minimalistic interior design mixing with hanging bird cages, an old style fireplace and color flashes connecting the interior with the exterior view on the city. Trees, ivy, and other plants enhance the outer part of the property in a pleasant contrast with the stone of the house. A place caught between history and present, cellars and hills.
